There is a few options when it comes to making your own grow box. You can either make one using things you can find around your house, or you can buy parts and build a grow ten out of it. One way or the other, it will not be entirely free, even if you make it using wood and nails lying around the house. You’ll need lights and fan and air filter… but lets not go ahead of ourselves. How to make a grow box – The List
Whether you’re making grow box yourself or buying a grow tent, you will need some extra items. Here is the list of items we believe are essential to any indoor grow setup:
1. Grow box/tent
Marijuana grows under strong, bright light. It also has a strong smell to it. So if you were to put it in a room somewhere, it would be bright and your whole house would smell. Grow box or tent keeps plants isolated, keeps the light inside and helps with the smell ( more about how to remove smell later).
If you have a small utility room to grow in then that would work great. Some people build wooden grow boxes, some just buy grow tents. All of these growing places are good. Buying a grow tent is the easiest solution. It’s build for that purpose.
We’re not going to go into details of how to make a grow box step by step. It’s entirely up to you, space that you have for it and your imagination. But all of these setups have something in common. Inside should be painted white, or best case scenario, covered with reflective material. There has to be at least to holes in it, one for fresh air to come in, one for used, filtered air to go out.
How big should tent be?
Bigger tent means more or bigger plants. It all depends on how much space you have for it. A mid-range tent is about 3ft x 3ft (width) x 6ft (height), this type of tent can fit about 9 plants. If you have more space you can use bigger tent like 4ft x 4ft or bigger. One thing to remember is not to make it too short, it should be at least 5 foot tall. You don’t want you plants to eventually touch the grow lights and get burnt. And also keep in mind that lamp and fan with filter will take up some space.

2. Grow light
Light is one of the most important things when growing. Good light = good yield. Naturally, sun would be main source of light, but if you’re growing indoors, you need a good light. You can choose from these options:
Led grow lights
Led lights are one of the best so far. They have good light spectrum and they are energy efficient. You can get Led Lights here, they’re quite good.
HID Lights
These yield good harvest, their also cheaper than LED lights. But they consume much more electricity and light bulbs need to be changed every 2 grows. If you plan growing with HID lights, try these ones out, 600W would work best.
3. Air filter and fan
You need to keep air circulating in your grow tent, otherwise your plans will suffer greatly. Filter is needed to filter out cannabis scent, which can be really strong. Unless you want your house to smell like weed. If you’re using 400W HPS or LED lights you could use 4 inch setup for your tent or box, if you’re using higher watt lights, we’d suggest using 6 inch setup.
4. Pots
Any pots work for this matter. We suggest using fabric pots, water is drained better and it allows roots to get more oxygen.
The bigger pots you will use, the bigger that plants will grow. Check measurements of pots before buying and decide how many you want to fit in that grow box of yours.
5. Soil/potting mix
Growing in soil is cheaper and easier than setting up a hydroponic system. That’s why getting good soil is important. It’s a foundation of healthy and strong plant. 6. Cannabis seeds

7. Peat pellets for germination

8. Fertilizer
